by Jonathan on 6:31 am

That goes without saying. I am sure you have heard that before, right? Are executive resumes really that important? I mean, after all, do we need an exhaustive work history or just know that they can get the job done? If they come on the approval of some pretty important people, then is a piece of paper that essential and meaningful? These are thought provoking questions, but let me help you see the whole picture.

First, there is a need for honesty. Do you believe that honesty is essential for those who operate and manage companies? Of course you do. Whether you check all of the facts or not is up to you, but it is important that you do try to make the best decision. Even in college football we have seen coaches lie on their resumes. What a shame. It happens more then we want to admit. Double checking for honesty is important.

Second, there is a need for results on executive resumes. Executive are most often hired based on their previous results. A company may need to hire a new innovator and want someone who can lead the company in a new direction. So, they will go out seeking someone who has had success doing this. A corporation might be in a turn around situation, they want to hire a turn-around expert. Results are key on an executive resume. In fact, the ideal executive resume will have more listed results and fewer descriptions of work responsibilities. If you do a search for executive resumes samples, you will find this to be true. In fact, I have a sample available for you. Just click on the “Resume Makeover” button above and scroll down to the sample. This will give you a good idea of what I am talking about. Any credible executive resume service understands the importance of heavily favoring results on executive resumes.

Lastly, executive resumes need brevity. This can be the single biggest challenge with most executives. Most have had a 20+ year career and have had the fortunate opportunity to have a vast amount of experiences. Summing all of this up in a two page resume is when executive resume writing can get a bit tricky. What you need to focus on is presenting your resume to a specific opportunity. This will really help you in weeding out what is not necessary in the resume. When you try to design a one resume fits all jobs approach you will struggle. However, most executives understand the importance of showing what needs to be said in a resume for a specific opportunity. In fact, this resume principle is key for candidates at all levels. You must target your resume to be successful. With the internet age, there are so many more people who through their resume around. This create a fuzzy, cloudy situation for you. Hiring managers can almost become bored and inattentive when sifting through resumes. You need to do something different. The difference is giving them a resume designed just for them.

I hope you will take these suggestions and apply them to your own career. Executive resumes are necessary, but they most be presented in the light above in order to be effective.
